RUNNING FOR 2026 RE-ELECTIONS



Councilman Oscar O. Vargas was elected to City Council in the summer of 2021. He represents Ward 15, which includes the parts of Silver Lake, Olneyville, Manton, and Valley neighborhoods. Councilman Vargas is a Resident of Ward 15 and the Chairman of the Committee on Public Works and a member of the Committee on Ordinances. He is also a member of the Water Supply Board and RI Convention.
As a resident of Providence for more than 35 years, Councilman Vargas has had the opportunity to experience firsthand the issues Ward 15 faces.
I will continue working hard for all residents of Ward 15 to have better city services, fair wages, and better education for our children for them to have a bright future.

The Focus: Replacing cracked walkways and painting high-visibility crosswalks.

Target Areas: The blocks immediately surrounding Ward 15 neighborhood schools, such as William D'Abate Elementary School in Olneyville and Anthony Carnevale Elementary School near Manton, to ensure safer walking paths for students.

Infrastructure Improvements: Ongoing construction focuses on extending and repairing the off-road bike paths and pedestrian walkways that connect Olneyville to the Valley neighborhood.

Safety & Climate Resilience: Recent updates include the installation of high-efficiency public lighting along the paths to improve evening safety, alongside localized native planting and flood mitigation measures along the riverbanks to handle heavy rain run-off.

Councilman Oscar Vargas supported a transformative $21 million expansion project that will provide new collaborative learning studios, additional classroom space, and modern educational facilities for future generations of students. -
